A number of people have told me that they're impressed to see how much my eleven year old daughter Sara likes to run. Since there's been so much interest, I wanted to share some of the things that we do together to make running fun. Sara also weighed in on each topic with her own point of view and also wrote her own chapter with advice for kids her age who want to become runners. If you have kids and you'd like to encourage them to be more active, I hope you'll find something here that will be helpful.

Harper Lee did not write To Kill a Mockingbird. Lee's book was initially titled, Go Set a Watchman, and after Truman Capote secretly revised the tale as a favor, the resulting Mockingbird won a Pulitzer. Ironically, that prize always eluded Truman, even after the publication of In Cold Blood, a masterpiece attributed to him...but actually penned by someone else-and that someone was Harper Lee! The astonishing role-reversal was arranged when the lifelong friends recognized that Truman possessed the sensitivity required to create Mockingbird's down-to-earth characters. Conversely, the intrepid Ms. Lee's inherent grit would give In Cold Blood its needed fierceness. The Ghostwriters is a sweeping literary eye-opener that not only probes the bizarre Capote/Lee relationship, but also shines a light on idiosyncrasies that define homespun Alabama...the scorched Kansas plains...and New York's decadent upper crust haunts.

Jeb writes in the honored tradition of Dashiell Hammett and others in the similar genre, that is, filled with excitement and splendid spark. The man puts out at least one novel each year and selects the best topics, this one about the relationship between the writers Harper Lee and Truman Capote in reverse roles which will enlighten you. You will spend some time in the Hamptons of Long Island and have dinner at the Automat in New York. Anyway, Jeb writes damn good and deserves your attention and remember, there are ten more of Jeb's terrific novels to catch up. This one a possible Pulitzer. Who knows.

There is something enigmatic about an individual who willingly laces up a pair of leather gloves to absorb and deliver physical punishment. Some would argue their sole purpose for creation was to become a fighter; thus they chose the fight-game. While others may claim the fight-game chose them out of circumstances. Regardless of the journey, a fighter’s legacy is ultimately defined many times in moments of glory as quickly as it is through tragic shortcomings. And although not every fighter is destined to reach the proverbial pinnacle of success with fame and fortune, there are those whose contributions speak equally as loud. Join us as we turn back the clock to reflect on those fighters whose story deserves to be told. Those warriors who paved a way for glory, yet somehow never seemed to fully receive their just due. Join us, in remembering these “Forgotten Legends”.

Lilian is a busy physician's assistant at the Mansard House, a nursing home in Boston, Massachusetts, run by the St. Francis Order. A facility well managed by the administrator, Father Michael, and the head nurse, Father Pat. The Mansard House feeds the hungry, clothes the poor, and cares for the sick.

But on a day when everything appears to be business as usual—with nurses tending to patients and housekeepers distributing laundry—a grisly discovery is made in the rehab unit. A visiting priest from an affiliate order is found dead in a pool of his own blood. As the police arrive and the crime scene is established, Detective David MacDonald begins a thorough investigation—and everyone is a suspect.

As the mystery unravels around a host of clues, the inquiry twists and turns to reveal a bequeathed fortune, a hotly contested will, hidden addictions, and even a secret love affair. The identity of the killer is anyone’s guess.

For fans of Robin Cook and Mary Higgins Clark, Murder at the Mansard House is a spectacular whodunit mystery that weaves an intricate tale of suspense and intrigue around complex characters to a shocking conclusion.

Written with warmth and clearly the author is familiar with the long term care industry - her descriptions ring so true. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an unexpected pleasure, an unique point of view that opens a window on a world that is not often written about, and a puzzling murder mystery all wrapped up into one. Steven Gerrard - legendary captain of Liverpool and England - tells the story of the highs and lows of a twenty-year career at the top of English and world football.

As the only player ever to have scored in a FA cup final, a league cup final, a UEFA cup final and a champion's league final, Steven Gerrard is an inspiration to fans and footballers alike. After joining his beloved Liverpool at the age of eight, he spent the next 28 years, and over 700 games, devoted to this one club. Perhaps the last player of his calibre that we will see display such extraordinary longevity and commitment, his loyalty ensures he will be remembered not only as one of the all-time Anfield greats but one of England's finest footballers.

In My Story Gerrard dissects his full playing career. He examines the defining games such as the 2005 Champion's League Final when he inspired 'The Miracle of Istanbul' as Liverpool came back from 3-0 down against AC Milan to become champions of Europe. He talks about his 114 caps for England, including World Cup and European Championship campaigns, asking what went right - and wrong.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Five stars for the player and the subject matter. Three and a bit for the ghost writer. By David Five stars for the player and the subject matter. Three and a bit for the ghost writer, who is apparently an Arsenal supporter. There are a couple of inexplicable errors. For example, in the section on the World Cup Group, Costa Rica is described as a “tiny island.” Of course, it’s not an island at all. It’s located on the Central American isthmus, between Nicaragua and Panama, as one look at Google Maps could have told the author.Certain sections describing famous passages of play read as though the author has simply watched the clips on Youtube and attempted to describe them. He even includes sections of the television commentary. Even then, there are odd ambiguities. For example, in describing Gerrard’s famous goal against Olympiakos there is the following passage: “it was about to bounce again when, running at speed, I hit it on the half volley.” Isn’t a half volley hit right after the bounce when the ball is rising, as in tennis or cricket? Is this described as a half volley because the ball had already bounced, even though the ball was apparently coming down and thus was hit like a volley? Admittedly, this is a pedantic criticism, although Gerrard’s famous second goal in the 2006 FA Cup Final when the ball bounced twice is simply described as “I caught it on the rise.” Perhaps this goal then might have better been described as a true half volley in all senses of the term? It was certainly one of the greatest goals in history, but after watching it, it’s unclear to me whether it was, in fact, struck “on the rise.”More importantly, I found the tone to be slightly ill-judged. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but I don’t see the need to include profanity, especially when many kids will likely read the book. It’s been while since I read the 2007 book, but my recollection of the difference can be summed up in contrasting anecdotes. The story in the earlier book about the garden fork and Gerrard’s toe was genuinely dramatic. The story in this book about Gerrard getting cut in a sensitive area away at Bournemouth and the playing the derby game with four stitches was overdone. It must have been a little tricky ghost writing a Gerrard autobiography when the previous version came out in 2007, after what he identifies as the two main peaks of his career had already passed: Istanbul 2005, and Cardiff 2006. Nevertheless, I think a better version could have been written. There are bits of the previous autobiography reheated, such as the passage about Basel 2002, Gerard Houllier, and his parents’ divorce. However, I suppose including this in order to compare and contrast with Basel 2014 is fine. There are also strange omissions. For example, there is nothing about Gerrard's second half hat trick as a substitute against Napoli in the Europa League in November 2010.There are also some good chapters. The section on injuries and surgeries is painful to read, not because of the writing, but because the gruesome detail. The section about Steve Peters, the sports psychiatrist, the theory of the inner chimp, and Gerrard’s thirty-eight seconds of crazy genius and madness in his last game against Manchester United, is also an entertaining read. It was interesting to read about him heading to Monaco with his wife right after the slip against Chelsea during the tilt at the title, and to Dubai with the players after the extended retirement celebrations, and the calamity at Stoke. For me, the slip and the flight to Monaco only served to make a hero more human. I don’t blame Gerrard one iota for taking his family to Los Angeles to have a break from all the attention and pressure he has to put up with on Merseyside, and the abuse he gets from jealous rival fans. The book ends with a line that Gerrard’s dad often said to him when he was a child: “This is where it starts. Everything you’ve done before this has gone.” As Gerrard’s career continues in Los Angeles, and as he completes his coaching qualifications, I am sure there will be very many more entertaining chapters ahead.

By Phil Cerminaro Paperboys are symbolic of a time when a strong work ethic and being kind to others were traits that have unfortunately diminished dramatically in the youth of today. I found myself completely immersed in the everyday struggles that the main character endured. How important a lesson it is to remember that throughout life one must be accountable for ones own actions, regardless of the circumstances that are faced. Well done!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A lovely tribute By Meghan Gorecki My grandmother got this book for my Dad for Christmas and he read it in less than a day. Tears sprang to my Dad's eyes with every other page as it brought to mind many scarily similar memories of his days as a paperboy for the Post Gazette in Carrick the same years as the author was a paperboy. Having worked for the Post Gazette as a driver for nine years (2001 to 2010), my Dad had hoped to retire as a "paperboy" from the Gazette, but the most hard-working man I know changed jobs for the sake of security for his family when the paper began to go downhill a few years back. I love that this book so touched my dad and brought so much joy and memories to him, written so well by a fellow paperboy. It takes quite a book to hit home and make such an impression, and this book of nostalgia is certainly a one of a kind, joy-filled book. Thank you for writing this.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A retro-seventies delight By JKReads This was a delight to read. I was sorry it was so short because it was so enjoyable. The writing flows so wonderfully and I can picture the sights and sounds of suburbia in the seventies. There are some heartwarming stories (the elderly lady who was invited for Thanksgiving, for example) and I think the author was a very thoughtful and kind young boy. It was a little saddening that despite his father being a physician, after his parents split up he essentially had to raise himself and was basically neglected. But all in all an enjoyable, delightful read. Definitely deserving five stars.

This memoir is a series of entertaining vignettes. It traces events from my life growing up as a child of Holocaust survivors in bucolic Transylvania, the changes after the ensuing Communist regime up to the escape to the free word and life thereafter. Though it does start with an expose of my parents’ provenance and some of their horrific experiences in the concentration camps, it covers about 65 years of quirky adventures in Romania, Austria, France, Israel and the US and includes travel disasters such as plane crashes, behind the scenes events in the fashion industry at a number of renowned fashion design companies, celebrity encounters, and a variety of simply comical incidents. It ends with a shocking discovery, a 65-year old family secret that came to light mainly due to serendipity during a trip back to my hometown in Romania in 2013.

By Amazon Customer If you're interested in memoirs that are touching, funny, and insightful, this book is for you. If you're interested in Holocaust history, life under a burdensome Communist regime, and the often amusing challenges of immigrant life in America, this book is for you. If you're fascinated by life in the New York fashion world and the larger world of a woman's discovery of computer technology--in short, if you're interested in the world-- this book is for you. Full disclosure: The author, Renee Palmer, has been my best friend for decades; I can attest to her honesty. The pages turn easily. Renee writes in a breezy style, but her experiences will remain with you. And you'll learn about adaptability--a key characteristic of her success.Instead of giving a young person yet another tome on "How to succeed", after graduation, give him or her this book. You, and the recipient, will never regret it.

Well written, lively, and funny, it takes you back in time to WWII, to how a young Jewish girl and her family coped under the bizarre rules in communist controlled Romania, how she went on to have numerous successful careers in fashion, computer programming, art and writing. Written anecdotally with tons of humorous and scary incidents, it's a great read and I recommend it to everyone who enjoys interesting stories and learning about life and times in other places. Plus it has a shocking surprise ending which I won't give away. Totally enjoyed this and you will too.

And because we're sisters, some of her story is my story as well.In the summer of 2013 Renee called me and said, "Do you have time to talk? Because I have something to tell you that you're not gonna believe...and I think you better sit down." And she began to tell me of a 65-year-old family secret that went back years before I was even born. That is what prompted her to embark on this memoir.Reading the book at times felt like I'd broken into my big sister's diary, because I was born ten years after she was, and I didn't know many of the stories she recounts here that happened before my time. But I share with her the culture shock of coming from a strange Jewish childhood in a backward and remote village in post-war Communist Romania and winding up in Queens, New York at the height of the Cold War in the early '60s, with some unexpected stops along the way. Her life in the US began in high school, mine in kindergarten.Beginning with our parents' history as Holocaust survivors, through our family's life as Jews in rural Transylvania during the oppressive regime of the Communist era, to our eventual escape to the free world, and her life thereafter, Renee tells her stories in the form of vignettes - sometimes dark and painful, but more often very amusing. She takes you on some crazy travel adventures, and behind the scenes of a successful career in the fashion industry to her equally successful later career as a computer geek.My sister is smart and funny, with a devilish twist, and so is the tone of this book. I won't divulge the secret that came to light as a result of one of her trips back home to the old country, but it brought her - and our - story full circle, and it sure proves that life is full of surprises! A great read.

Three days into the maiden voyage that would end in disaster, a passenger is found dead inside a locked cabin ― the victim of a murder. Jacques Futrelle, author of the popular "Thinking Machine" mysteries, is asked to use his knowledge of criminology to conduct a quiet investigation. Adding to the delicate nature of the inquiry is a suspect list that reads like a Who's Who of high society ― and every single one of them has a motive for murder. Accompanied by his intrepid wife, May, Futrelle pursues leads all over the palatial ship in what would prove to be his greatest ― and final ― mystery. Once again, author Max Allan Collins creates an astonishing work of historical fiction in this vivid, enthralling account of the Titanic’s fateful passage.

Amazon.com Review Q&A with “New York Times” Best-Selling Author Max Allan Collins

Max Allan Collins is the Shamus Award winning, New York Times best-selling author of Road to Perdition and multiple award-winning novels, screenplays, comic books, comic strips, trading cards, short stories, movie novelizations, and historical fiction. We recently had the chance to ask him a few questions about his Disaster Series.

Question: It’s unusual for a series of mystery novels to lack a continuing character; however this series is based on a thematic unity. You focus not only on famous historical disasters, but also on a succession of famous mystery and thriller writers, as your hero/detectives. How did you come up with that approach?

Max Allan Collins: Somewhat by accident. As with most of my series books, this one spun off of a novel intended as a one-shot The Titanic Murders. Shortly after I saw James Cameron’s film, I was talking to an editor at Berkley Books about the movie, and its enormous popularity, and mentioned in an off-hand way that a famous mystery writer of the era had died on the Titanic, Jacques Futrelle, author of the Thinking Machine stories, which I’d read in junior high. I said, off the top of my hand, that somebody should write a mystery in which Jacques Futrelle solves a closed-environment, Agatha Christie-style puzzle aboard the doomed ship. Wouldn’t it be darkly amusing for the detective to solve a murder mystery, pronounce all right with the world, and then hear a WHUMP, and say, “What was that?” And then after a long pause, my editor said, “Can you get me something this afternoon? Just a paragraph?” I said sure, did so, and the book was sold. Same day.

Q: But how did The Titanic Murders lead to a series?

MAC: When it came time to negotiate the contract, I was told that the publisher wasn’t taking on anything but series books – and that I had to come up with two more books. I said, “Well, the detective dies at the end – it is the Titanic, after all.” Too bad, but you have to do a series, I was told. Again, off the top of my head, I said, well, I could do other famous disasters, like the Hindenburg and the Lusitania.

Q: But not all of the writers were actually present when the disaster in the novel took place, correct?

MAC: Most were. Agatha Christie was certainly in London for the Blitz. Edgar Rice Burroughs was in Pearl Harbor during the attack. S.S. Van Dine did travel on the Lusitania, although not during the fateful voyage. And Walter Gibson, as the creator of the Shadow, had an obvious connection to Orson Welles, making Gibson’s presence at the “War of the Worlds” broadcast believable.

Q: Will there be more Disaster novels?

MAC: Well, I always say it’s nice to write a novel that’s a disaster on purpose. But during the writing of The Lusitania Murders, 9/11, the worst disaster of recent memory, occurred and took some of the fun out of my notion. I never made light of the disasters I was dealing with, except perhaps in The War of the Worlds Murder. But the distance of time does provide a cushion. I’ll be interested to see how new readers, coming to the Thomas & Mercer editions, feel.

Q: We understand all of the books will be available on audio.

MAC: Yes, most of them for the first time. It’s fun to have these stories, these characters, come so vividly to life.

About the Author Max Allan Collins is the New York Times bestselling author of Road to Perdition and multiple award-winning novels, screenplays, comic books, comic strips, trading cards, short stories, movie novelizations, and historical fiction. He has scripted the Dick Tracy comic strip, Batman comic books, and written tie-in novels based on the CSI, Bones, and Dark Angel TV series; collaborated with legendary mystery author Mickey Spillane; and authored numerous mystery novels including the Quarry, Nolan, Mallory, and the bestselling Nathan Heller historical thrillers. His additional Disaster series mystery novels include The Titanic Murders, The Hindenburg Murders, The Pearl Harbor Murders, The London Blitz Murders, and The War of the Worlds Murder.

From AudioFile Based on historical records and eyewitness accounts, Collins has created a compelling thriller that centers NOT on the sinking of the ocean liner, but on a pair of murders that might have happened, involving some of its more notable passengers. The story is entertaining, well researched and read with effective versatility by New York actor Jeff Woodman. At its center is Jacques "Jack" Futrelle, the famous American mystery writer of the time. Woodman provides believable characterizations of Southern belles, cockney stewards and foreign passengers. But his interpretation of Futrelle--a large man in stature and in prominence--is weak and unremarkable. Nonetheless, THE TITANIC MURDERS is a mystery to remember. GENERALLY A GOOD, QUICK READ By H O'Fallon I was immediatley drawn into the premise of this book simply because I have been a Titanic buff for over 15 years, and I was happy to discover it was not a love/class story. The author deftly moves us through richly detailed staterooms, meals, and accurate charcters down to the stewards. The attempt to make one feel as if they are on the ship and in the company of the cream of Edwardian society, while also weaving a tale of mystery and murder, is well achieved. I also love the idea of planting the seed of possible reality into the plot. The only drawback I could find was while I generally enjoyed the authenticity of the primary characters being real people, I was a bit put off by the fact that two most likely innocent men have been villianized in a work of fiction. This however detracts nothing from the book itself. Very convincing, and a great summer read. I am glad to have stumbled upon it.

The concept of having mystery writer Jacques Futrelle solve a murder aboard the Titanic before he himself met with death before the ship sank is a good one, and I have to also commend Collins for getting the atmosphere of the Titanic down to a T.However, I have to confess I was deeply distressed to discover that the two villains of this piece, John Crafton and Hugh Rood, were not made up names used for the occasion but were in fact the names of very real people who were lost aboard the Titanic, and whose identities were appropriated by Mr. Collins solely because he could find nothing about them. This is something that I find distasteful. The fact that not much is known about Mr. Rood or Mr. Crafton is not a valid reason for turning them into the figures of convenience for Mr. Collins's story, and I think he would not have dampened the authentic feel of the story by simply using made up names for the occasion. I find it incredible that Mr. Collins did not bother to contact anyone connected with the Titanic Historical Society or Titanic International, where the scholars there know practically everything about every passenger who sailed aboard the ship. Indeed, the book "Titanic: The Exhibition" does mention that Mr. Crafton came from Roachdale, IN while Mr. Rood was from Seattle. No doubt, there were people who grieved for them as surely as there were people who grieved for the more famous people like the hero, Jacques Futrelle. Mr. Collins may take comfort that he bothered to not dig deep enough about these two men to find out if he were offending anyone, but I find his claim of respect for Titanic's victims to be very hollow when he's not willing to give them the same respect. And that is why I cannot ultimately endorse the book even though it is a brilliant piece of mystery writing.Since I first wrote this review some two years ago, I have decided that my disgust over Mr. Collins' inexcusable use of Messers. Crafton and Rood as his villains forces me to now lower my overall rating of the book. Additional information on Crafton and Rood, which Collins says he wasn't able to find over the course of his research, came to me after just one inquiry to a former officer of the Titanic Historical Society."John Crafton was 59 years old, was born and reared in Indiana and lived in Roachdale, IN in 1912. He was a 'prominent stone promoter of the Oolitic district' (presumably a promoter of the use of stone in building projects.) He had a wife and son and for many years was connected with the 'Monon road.' Mr. Crafton went to Europe on a pleasure trip in February of 1912 and bookedhis return passage on the Titanic."Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Rood made their home in Seattle, where Mr. Rood was vice president of the Pacific Creosotin Company. They were in Paris together when Mr. Rood booked a single passage on the Titanic for a business trip to New York. (Mrs. Rood and her maid were to follow on another vessel.) After the disaster, Mrs. Rood tried in vain to find any survivors who recalled seeingher husband on board the Titanic."Shame on "The Titanic Murders" for taking the names of these two men and transforming them into rapists and blackmailers just for the sake of a fictional story because the author didn't do the necessary research.

12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Could be.... By Amy Leemon Max Allan Collins makes history come to life and you find yourself thinking...."well, maybe"...His meticilous research shows - you can picture the scenes and even the elaborate clothes. The plot is plausible (altho I agree with the reviewers that he shouldn't have used the names of actual people on the ship and made them the villians only because he could find nothing out about them) and of course, the ending no surprise.Well worth your time for a quick read.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I was captivated . . .and participated too! By Sharon Younger From the first sentence to the last sentence I was a captivated audience . . . and participant too! The author was a 60's East Coast girl and I was a 60's West Coast girl. The first sentence "We were the uncommon ones, the ones with the tickets to Woodstock . . . " drew me in as the author painted pictures in my mind where I could experience anew the music, concerts, drugs, Vietnam War and all the factors that make the Sixties an important time. While One Good Tree is an excellent portrayal of "The Turbulent Sixties," of equal importance is Love as the motivation for all the players in the book. A mother with a young child, family, friendships and spirituality are what kept the pages rapidly turning for me. The '60's history lesson' is fun and will open eyes of those who either 'can't remember' or were not yet born. Happy reading! (Oh, and the last sentence? " . . . a tribute to Paul and all the veterans of Vietnam whose names are not on the wall.")

Timely book for a new generation By Jack Ivers Irene Carver’s cautionary tale of the toll of war on those at home will ring true for a new generation of veterans, their spouses and children, parents and friends. It shows that we as a nation haven’t learned much from our experience.Through her own experience, her love of an era’s music and literature, Carver knits her story through the heady, angry, tumultuous and heart-breaking days of the 1960s and 1970s.From the Tet Offensive in 1968 to the fall of Saigon in 1975, she tells the story of a young couple who became casualties of war, along with their son, their parents, siblings and friends. In telling her story and that of her Vietnam-veteran husband, she also tells the story of a generation who came of age in those years, and the parents who watched the ravages of what a war cost their children and grandchildren. What happened to her shows us once again the cost of sending people into war and especially not taking care of the veterans when they come home. The price paid by her husband, herself and their son show us in a very human and matter-of-fact way the cost to those who were unprepared to help the impaired person who came home. Her husband’s journey through addiction and then-unknown PTSD when he came back from Vietnam is told in heart-rending detail. As a 20-something single mother, Carver shows incredible strength and grace as she tries to make a life and a home for her son and herself without any support from her husband, who becomes lost in his trauma and resulting addiction. His demons threaten them all as he weaves in and out of their lives.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. One Good Book By Amazon Customer Anyone who spent their formative years living through the 60's and early 70's will love this book. The memory neurons in your brain will be stimulated, massaged, and invigorated as you once again remember the joys of listening to rock and roll music and discovering spiritual texts from the East like "Be Here Now" and "The Autobiography of a Yogi". Irene Carver resurrects your political idealism as you recall anti-war demonstrations, civil rights marches, assassinations, and political corruption. She pulls at your heart strings as she eloquently writes about the joys and sorrows of her love and marriage to her first husband (Paul) and his descent into drug addiction while trying to erase the pain of what he experienced in Vietnam. We now know these symptoms as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) and Carver allows the reader to experience her roller coaster of emotions from love, jealousy, rage, sadness, compassion, to forgiveness as she struggles to raise her son without a father. This book is Carver's tribute to Paul and to all the veterans who served with distinction, but whose names are not on the wall.

This is the story of Lydia Marx Henricksen. Lydia was born in 1925 in Giessen, Germany and came of age in the 1930s and 1940s. These were turbulent times in Germany as the nation suffered through revolution, hyper-inflation, depression, political violence and the catastrophe of World War II. While the family fortunes suffered, Lydia, herself, grew up secure and sheltered in a tight-knit traditional German family. She recalls her childhood and teenage years as full of fun. She was a strong, bright, happy-go-lucky girl with a thirst for learning and ambition to move beyond the secure confines of the family and the traditional role of a German woman as that of Kinder, Kueche, Kirche. Lydia's comfortable life was changed when Germany began to mobilize for war. All teenagers had to spend a year in service. The family assets were seized. Fathers, uncles and brothers were inducted into the military to serve in France, Russia, Africa and other far-away places. Women and children had to rely upon themselves. At age 14, as the oldest child in the family, Lydia became the family's main breadwinner. By age 18, she was a single mother and by age 19, she and her family began to experience the full force of the war, as the battle was taken to the civilian population. Intense aerial bombings by the British and the Americans destroyed many of Germany's beautiful old cities, including Giessen, and brought Germany to its knees. Ever resilient, Lydia adapted to the new circumstances and found her way through tragedy and loss. Like so many other German women, Lydia became a war bride, and at age 28, began a new phase of her life her life in America. It was a difficult transition, but in America Lydia found opportunities that would have been denied to her in Germany. She raised four children and had an exciting and successful career as a hospital administrator. At age 90, she lives comfortably in her own home in Pacific Grove, California - a peaceful and quiet place on the beautiful central California coast

Those of us who have drawn upon films or war stories to guide us in our understanding of the German people during the Great Wars can profit from the perspective of a person who actually lived it. The descriptions of life, places, traditions, and family are beautifully and visually detailed. I highly recommend it.

It's in the public domain, which means googling "hour of the dragon gutenberg" will allow you to read the full text of it free of charge, and this apparently is why editor Charles Moffat seems to believe it's legal for him to sell this ebook. Unfortunately for him, the character of Conan is still trademarked, meaning this edition is strictly speaking illegal. I would have to recommend against paying money for an illegal copy of a freely available book.
