I blew through this in a couple of days, which never happens for me. They're moments of laughing out loud in the book alongside a somewhat tragic story. The author admits that he's no writer, but I thought it was well written. I was amazed by the stories and the pace at which they came, and sure enough, the stories stopped as he went through everything going on his life and then the stories came back and continued through the end. So, there's a bit of a break in the middle, but I have only one complaint: no pictures. I'd like to see what the author looks l​ike.

As someone who's worked in the Las Vegas service industry, it all rings so true. Hank completely bares his soul and holds nothing back. It's raw and wonderful. Not often are we able to loose our integrity, then find it and get it back. There's truth in Hanks steps down that slippery slope we call Sin City, yet he was able to survive it and redeem himself to all. Great job!!!A must read on the plane before landing in Las Vegas. It's got all the insiders secrets!

Carvers unique style of writing makes me feel like I was there with him throughout his journey of heartbreak, $100 handshakes, and hospitality. This is as close to a real Vegas lifestyle as I have ever read. A true page turner. Do yourself a favor and make this purchase. It will give you a whole new insight on how to "behave" in Las Vegas!

Liar's Island was just what I needed after reading a stinker. It's light and refreshing, like a palette cleanser for my soul and a reminder of why I love fantasy. It has great characters, an interesting story and a great pace. This is my first Pathfinder novel, but it reminds me a lot of the Forgotten Realms novels I started reading in middle school.Pratt's characters are easy to like and have personality without trying hard to prove it. Everything comes across so effortlessly that I got lost in the story and enjoyed myself. Our hero Rodrick and his sword Hrym work well together as the sword has more personality than a lot of actual human characters I've tried to connect to.I'm not going to focus too much on the Pathfinder world building itself, as it is a shared world and I'm not familiar with it enough to know how much of it Pratt helped create. Regardless, it is rich in history and well developed. I would honestly like reading another Pathfinder book just to explore the world more.The only thing I didn't like about the book was how much the narrative voice would explain things far more than was needed. That being said, I understand that there is a wide age range of readers that would be interested in the book and I'm sure there are some younger readers that need the additional explanations to follow the story.Pratt's Liar's Island is a wonderful fantasy story perfect for readers that need a refreshing read after a bout of bad books. There isn't an issue with language. Minor acts of violence and only suggested sexual situations making it appropriate for teens and adults. Treat yourself and pick up your own copy today.

This guy would probably we doing time for bouncing counterfeit checks today or running a pyramid scheme, but he's a hilarious protagonist. Totally unrepentant, even when he repents, which he sort of does.... maybe.

By Archania This was my first venture into Pathfinder Tales after hearing about this book on Know Direction.It was great! The pronunciation that the reader did was fantastic.The story was interesting and flowing. Even though it was the second book in a series, it didn't stop you from getting to know the characters.

I am neither endorsing or discrediting this story, so please bear in mind this review is based on my reading experience only.Head hopping, swift changes of POV in a story, is a writing style I’m not fond of, which was often the case while reading Blood Source. I can keep up with two characters talking at once, but when given four or five peoples thoughts in one scene… suffice to say, I’m not a fan!To begin with I thought I was going to be overwhelmed with a huge cast of characters, but there weren’t so many at all, just numerous monikers for each of them. Lexxington is referred to as – Lady DeWinter Frost, Lexxington, Lexx, the dark haired woman, Vampyre, Daemon, her (Abi’s) protector, Warlord, Ceann, Lomhara, and near the end Matera.So we have eleven titles for one character! Without even starting on the list of name’s Abi was referred to. Throw a triad of those together in the middle of a sex scene and the confusing jumble of endearments served to do nothing but distance me as a reader.As the story progressed the use of words like, thou, wilt, wouldst, thus, seemed to become more prominent, and again I struggled to keep reading. “How long wouldst thou remain before thou art healed?”As I type this review I’m realizing more and more, the story might not have been terrible, however the delivery overwhelmed me so much I couldn’t enjoy it.I urge you to take a chance on this book and draw your own conclusion. You might very well enjoy it, and I sincerely hope you do. My rating is for the author’s blood, sweat and tears they clearly poured into creating a full-length novel. The whole idea of not so good vampires was interesting and I loved the fact that the two main characters were actually in love and not some kind of thrall. I only have one complaint and that is too much sex. I enjoy a good sex scene as much as the next person but by the third one I was skipping through them. You could cut half of those out and the book would be just as good. But it was a nice way to pass a couple of hours.

I've read quite a few books that have dealt with unsolved murders and I've observed that very few of those books were interesting, because it's hard to write a compelling book about true crime when you are writing about something that is unsolved. However, this author nailed it with this book. The book gives the details of the crimes in a compelling manner, puts forth the evidence (or lack of) concisely, and then poses questions and observations about the crime in such a way that is not leading to the reader, but does raise interesting ideas. I really enjoyed reading this book and will keep in on my Kindle for a reread in the future. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true crime books. Mysterious Murders

A finger of smoke from the fire seemed to eerily follow me down to the creek where I drafted water to refill tanker 1-81’s three hundred gallon tank. It thickened and lay like a dirty cloud over the truck as I slowly maneuvered my way on an old logging road for about a half mile, back to the fire. In order to make it easier to get out in a hurry, in case the whole thing blew up around us, I turned the truck around in the middle of the road where there was a fire line scraped out by a cat that tied into the road. I then backed up the cat trail about fifty yards to get to our hose line. While performing this extraordinary feat of skill, I managed to knock off the driver’s side mirror. With these words, author John Meyers takes us on a twelve year journey, following his career as a wildland firefighter and a city department fireman. “Generally, firemen who fight wildland fires are called Firefighters and firefighters who fight city fires are called Firemen. I’m not sure what the difference is. I’ve done both and both are dangerous and the flames are just as hot and can burn you up in either environment.” At times, the journey was exciting – The Lieutenant and I were on one side of the truck with a live reel (a rubber one inch hose on a reel that always stays charged with water) and a couple of guys were on the other side of the truck with the other live reel. The engineer was supposed to be watching both of us. He wasn’t. He saw that the other guys got their part of the fire knocked down, so he shut off the pump. At times it was dangerous – I looked at Popeye on one side of me and Cowboy on the other. We didn’t say anything, but we joined the rest of the crew in lying down in the middle of the line we had made. Maybe this was going to be the first time we deployed our “turkey roasters,” but no word came about that either. We just laid there as the fire came roaring right up to us. And lots of times it was just plain humorous - I made my way back down a heavily covered slope, crashing noisily through the buck brush. As I broke out on the road at the bottom of the hill, a bear broke out about ten or fifteen yards to my left. He had been crashing noisily down the same slope and neither one of us had heard the other. We looked at each other with a great deal of surprise, we both grunted, and we both took off running in opposite directions! “Bear – Human! Aaaahhhhh!” John describes the danger and tragedy he faced at times and shares the joys of developing a comradeship with his fellow crewmen by taking you inside his experiences. 24 glorious full black and white photographs included. This is an updated version with a few more stories.

About the Author John Meyers worked for eleven years as a wildland firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service on the Plumas National Forest in Northern California, and one year for the Citrus Heights Fire Department, near Sacramento, California. His career started in 1967 right out of high school as a crewman on a Forest Service Fire Tanker. He worked his way up as a seasonal employee until he was a Tanker Foreman with a crew of his own, and spent one season on a Hotshot crew. While in college, he worked for the Citrus Heights Fire Department, learning the differences between wildland fires and city fires. He learned that the flames of fire are the same in either case and can burn you up just as easily in either location. John worked fires throughout California during his career. In 1980, John left the Forest Service and firefighting. He and his wife travelled, touring a two person Melodrama and Olio show across the western states for the next six years, then, when they landed in Humboldt County, California, he started an eighteen year career supporting adults with developmental disabilities. Now, in retirement, he has written a number of books about supporting adults with developmental disabilities, and his SNAP Curriculum is used by agencies and schools across the United States and three other countries. He and his wife, Sheryl, have also penned several fiction books (www.mosscanyon.com). He has no plans to leave retirement and fight fire again.

By JB The author not only recounts the seriousness of the fires he fought, but also gives the reader a glimpse in to the lives of the heroic men that fought the fires. The situations range from amazing (you can almost feel the flames) to humorous (how they kept their sanity while dealing with incredibly stressful situations).I highly recommend this book is you're looking for an entertaining, informative and inspiring read.Thank you to all the fire fighters that risk their lives to keep others safe!

Great Book -- A Must Read By Chana John Meyers gives a very interesting and wonderful account of what it was like fighting fires and working with his fellow crew members. After I began reading I couldn't put the book down, but read it all the way through. There are some funny stories as well that had me laughing. This is certainly a must read, I bought two additional copies to give as gifts to family members.

Short and well written by a man with the credentials to write it. Highly recommended if you have any interest in being, or have been a Fire Man. And John, the last paragraph or so moved me deeply.

Robert Keller gets right to the heart of the cases he covers and has a no holds barred style. After finishing this I hope to never hear the name Albert Fish again but I will be watching for more works from Robert.

From the Author The Enchanted Necklace was first developed as stories I started telling to my two daughters back in the summer of 2003. Both girls shared a love for classic fairy tales, so I decided to try my hand at inventing original princess characters for them. As residents in Riverside, Illinois, we lived in walking distance to the Brookfield Zoo where the girls regularly admired the Norwegian Fjord Horses. When I learned this ancient breed of horse was used by the Vikings, a specific medieval setting for the stories came into focus. I am extremely pleased my daughters had the opportunity to grow up with their own princess fairy tale, and now my wish is that The Enchanted Necklace will become cherished by families across the globe.

About the Author James Bradley Clarke is a graduate of Hiram College, The University of Houston, and the University of Michigan. Classical studies, including the epic poetry of Homer and Virgil, made a significant impact upon Clarke's imagination. Also inspired by the adventure novels of Robert Louis Stevenson, Alexandre Dumas, and others, Clarke began writing fiction by developing historical adventure stories steeped with Norse mythology as bedtime fairy tales for his two daughters. Mr. Clarke currently resides in northeastern Ohio, where he works as a research manager within the manufacturing sector. The Enchanted Necklace is his first children's book.

EPIC FAIRY TALE SOON TO BE A CLASSIC By Grace Augustine What a wonderful way to begin a sunny winter Saturday morning....fresh coffee, strawberry scones and a wonderful fairy tale! Not since The Princess Bride has there been a story that old and young alike can immerse themselves in and be transported to a magical kingdom. James Bradley Clarke has done just that with his new book, The Bifrost Bridge. It has all of the elements of a fairy tale...princesses, evil trolls, magic and a happy ending. The other thing I noticed in this magnificent work was the strong, loving male presence of fathers who love their daughters. I thoroughly enjoyed the infusion of Norse mythology that Clarke wove through the story line of these Dane and Norse royal families. I highly recommend this book; a very good gift to those who have a little princess. A great bedtime story! It is a feel good happily ever after that leaves you wanting to know what the next adventure of the cousin princesses will be.

This will fit quite well in your child's collection of fairy tales to read over and over again. It was also quite enjoyable to read as an adult and I know my daughter will love it for many years to come. You can't not love the 2 pricesses in the story and it so refreshing that they get along so well. Fans of Disney's Sophia the First will especially love this.

The author is also adept at describing so much with so little. I would definitely recommend this book.

Excerpt from The Origin and Ideals of the Modern SchoolOn October 12, 1909, Francisco Ferrer y Guardia was shot in the trenches of the Montjuich Fortress at Barcelona. A Military Council had found him guilty of being "head of the insurrection" which had, a few months before, lit the flame of civil war in the city and province. The clergy had openly petitioned the Spanish Premier, when Ferrer was arrested, to look to the Modem School and its founder for the source of the revolutionary feeling; and the Premier had, instead of rebuking them, promised to do so. When Ferrer was arrested, the prosecution spent many weeks in collecting evidence against him, and granted a free pardon to several men who were implicated in the riot, for testifying against him. Conventional capitalist society's perception of education is a tool to material wealth. It is structured to mold minds to areas that ensure the survival of capitalism. Why shouldn't it be a way for men to expand their conciousness and explore there own areas of interest? Ferrer believed this and applied it to his Modern School in 1908 Spain. He was tried on false evidence and executed for his dream. But why buy this book when you can read the whole thing online thanks to pitzer college: [...]

Weatherly I have read most of Jeannie Walker’s books and never been disappointed. She brings the instincts of a tenacious investigator and merges them with qualities of an engaging interviewer. In this book she opens with the killing of a young woman, creating a mystery that won’t be solved for another fifty years.About the same time, the mother of two young boys goes missing. She left home to sell jewelry and never returned. Details unfold as the author presses her dad for details as to why she only has two grandparents. Her dad explains both of his parents are dead and that he and his brother grew up in an orphanage.As the story moves forward we learn of an enduring bond that develops between the author and her dad. She eventually learns of her Indian heritage, including the trials and tribulations of the Cherokees and other eastern tribes who were forced from their homes, farms and businesses by the U.S. Government. We have come to know the name of this event as the, Trail of Tears. It was nothing less than an atrocity as people were forced to travel during the winter in summer clothes. Some died from exposure, others from disease and many from starvation during their travels from the eastern states to Indian Country, now known as Oklahoma.Jeannie Walker is motivated by her love of family and faith in God. She demonstrates that while describing the time she spent during the last days of her dad’s life. She cares for him to the very end.Following the death of her father, she has a dream of a young girl and an encounter with an Indian princess. Soon after that, Jeannie discovers an old newspaper clipping with a headline referring to the discovery of the body of a woman north of Atoka. She soon becomes convinced the story was giving her a glimpse of her missing grandmother.Events take various turns. In one we learn about the murder of a sheriff’s deputy, Gene Moore who was killed by Clyde Barrow or a member of his gang.I’ll leave the rest of the story for you to enjoy but want to add an observation about the style of the book. Each chapter has a descriptive title and subtitle followed by a relevant quotation by a famous writer. I appreciate this added refinement. It's a nice touch. I’m confident that fans of Jeannie Walker will enjoy this heartfelt story. If you aren’t already a fan, you might become one. She's writing about her personal life experiences. I especially love this book, because I'm very interested in Native American history, with murder, mystery, and family ties, a combination that make this story unforgettable. I would recommend Forever in My Heart to anyone who enjoys murder mysteries, true crime, American Indian Culture and genealogy .

The author recounts his experiences from applying for the police department, going through training and eventually working on patrol in NYC circa 1970s/80.The author’s experiences are recounted in diary-like style with special attention to detail. If you ever wondered what it was like on the job “back in the day,” this is a great book for you.

Mr Leone paints a rich and vivid description of every day life from the mundane to the sometimes thrilling radio calls he has responded to over a 13 yr period of his life. Great read!!
