Many lives have been affected profoundly by the Bermuda Triangle and one such person is Kip Boland who survived near death experiences while sailing between Fort Lauderdale Florida USA and Bimini. Her book is based on true and factual experiences while caught in the Triangle. These strange occurrences have never been explained and were buried deep within Kip's heart and her journal. After more than four decades, Kip decided to open and share what happened to her in the book you are about to read. This book is written from the third person point of view and takes the reader into the vivid world of Kip's life as a young woman who took on the adventure of sailing the Intracoastal off Florida, USA. You will find yourself tossed to and fro by the waves that try to overtake her little vessel, the SOLITUDE. There were many things that happened to her and her husband that could never be explained and there are some things that still bother her to talk about. It is all chronicled in this book. If you are fascinated by the paranormal, the unexplained or anything that just shouldn't be, this book is a must read for you. Kip kept these things to herself for over forty years and not even her close friends and family were privy to what happened back in the early 1970's. She couldn't bring herself to talk about it. Having suffered a broken neck from the experiences in this book, Kip decided to keep her space from the waters of the Triangle and stay safe. It was as though something was warning her, "Stay away!" After the last fateful encounter with the Triangle, Kip decided to do just that, move away and she never came back. Kip loves the sea and marine life, yet never allowed herself to be caught in such panic and despair ever again. Her book is full of colorful description that will reel you into her life while on the Solitude. The Triangle has claimed many countless lives with many never to tell of what happened. Her's is a true story by someone who escaped the Bermuda Triangle.

A story that takes you somewhere new By Brad At first I didn't really get into this story and wondered if it was going to be for me, but then at some point without me noticing, I was totally engrossed. It's cleverly written with just enough subtle tention to make you sit a little uncomfortably without realising you are doing so.The story is about a married couple Kenzie and Zak, who while looking at holiday/retirement homes in Florida, purchase a boat on a whim they can not explain. Their various outings take a strange turn as the boat, the weather, and time itself become unknown factors for them, and for Kenzie, her husband's unusual behaviour has her questioning what else in her life might be built on shaky ground. Can it be explained by bad luck, human error, or their proximity to the infamous Bermuda triangle. It might be the most subtle horror I have read. But it's one that taps into our fear of leaving our comfort zones behind, and not being in complete control of everything around us.If you are looking for non stop action then that's not happening here. But for something different, and a true story, I thought it was really good.Total reading time 3-4 hrs (Drama, Horror)

Crave: Sojourn of a Hungry Soul is a coming-of-age memoir that chronicles a young girl's journey through abuse and impoverishment. The effusive narration descends into the depths of personal and sexual degradation, perpetual hunger for food, safety and survival. While moving through gritty exposés of poverty, abuse, and starvation, Crave renders a continuing search for sustenance that simply will not die.Laurie Jean Cannady is most recognizable through her voice. Lyrical and august, yet strangely intimate, her lucid memory for the texture of daily existence weaves the reader into the fabric of the story. We discover that the most slender threads bind the strongest. It is no surprise this memoir is a narrative about a victim who becomes a survivor. Cannady is assertive, motivational, and unafraid to reach her target audience: women, African Americans, high-school students, college students, survivors of physical and sexual abuse, veterans, people raised by single parents, and folks who are living in or have lived through impoverishment.Laurie Jean Cannady, a professor of English at Lock Haven University, spends much of her time encouraging students to realize their true potential. She is a consummate champion of women's issues, veterans' issues, and issues affecting underprivileged youth. Cannady resides in central Pennsylvania with Chico Cannady and their three children.

Crave: Sojourn of a Hungry Soul, by Laurie Jean Cannady

Review "In Laurie Jean Cannady's Crave, power is taken and power is given in a timeless story of the levels of existence that poverty and disenfranchisement sometimes force families to endure, and the insistence of one family to carry on. Through the eyes of an indomitable young woman, we glimpse the despair and possibility of life and witness the triumph of her finding her way to her own sense of worth and strength. Crave reminds us all that circumstances do not define us."-Morowa Yejidé, author of Time of the Locust"In Crave: Sojourn of a Hungry Soul, Laurie Cannady relays a harrowing tale of childhood poverty, deprivation, and abuse. Never maudlin or self-pitying, always searingly honest, Cannady balances raw evocations of suffering with tender love for her beleaguered family. The result is the transcendent story of a child who will not remain a victim."--Laurie Alberts, author of Fault Line and Between Revolutions "Crave: A Sojourn of a Hungry Soul" is a soul-searing memoir that marks the arrival of a unforgettable new voice.  Brave, honest, and beautiful, this is a story about facing the truth, facing the truth, and daring to love your way through to the other side." --Tayari Jones, author of Silver Sparrow and Leaving Atlanta"In her unflinching memoir, Cannady is truthful enough to pay loving tribute to her remarkable mother without glossing over her faults, compassionate enough to recognize the woundedness in the men and boys who caused so much hurt. I fell in love with the little girl, wronged in ways she cannot as yet name, who still suspects that "the way it's done" is not the way life ought to be. And I rejoiced-as you will-that Cannady grew up to be the woman capable of writing this beautiful, essential book."--Diane Lefer, author of Confessions of a Carnivore; co-author of The Blessing Next to the Wound"In this family history, as in many, sometimes it's difficult to know who's stirring the pot and who needs saving. Cannady is indeed faithful and fearless in her tightly woven tale of horror and grace, kinship and light, full of "mementos every...child works hard to keep." Here, the precious cargo of families is set adrift in the cauldron of the world and Cannady is unabashed in recalling the music that transfixed and bolstered them, then paved the way for her own luminous singing."--Remica L. Bingham-Risher, author of Conversion and What We Ask of Flesh

From the Author "Cannady writes about the interlocking effects of poverty and abuse in a way that readers will instantly recognize as vibrant, with the authenticity of true experience rendered bravely... Her formative years of having too little, paradoxically nurtured her keen writer's eye and generous spirit so prominently on display in Crave. This is a deeply affecting debut memoir."-- Sue William Silverman, The Pat Boone Fan Club

From the Inside Flap "A bold, honest, and courageous."--Kirkus Reviews "Cannady has delivered a poignant coming-of-age tale that reveals the ... pain and struggle often shuffled ... from one family generation to the next. In sometimes humorous, often wrenching detail, this book chronicles a young girl's determined search for self. A fascinating read."--Nathan McCall, Makes Me Wanna Holler "This book is at once both intimate and epic ..."--Tim Seibles, Fast Animal

This is a wonderful debut memoir, Laurie Jean Cannady writes with clarity and grace about some of the worst things a child can experience. Crave is a book I want to come back to again and again, it's a light for people who have survived poverty and abuse. I can't wait to read whatever else she puts out into the world.

On the surface, the author and I have little in common. She and I are of different ethnic backgrounds. We're of different generations (I'm her mom's age). And the subject matter is far from my usual romance/suspense/comedic bent. (If the title alone doesn’t clue you in to the seriousness of the book, the cover should—dark and foreboding, it makes me feel sad without reading a word.) Yet Cannady's skill at writing, at story-telling, drew me in at the first page. This is the story of a young girl growing up in abject poverty (and worse), but still filled with spirit and hope and love. Using vivid imagery and a narrative voice that’s both conversational and intense, she fills the pages with everyday events that made me care (some painful, some humorous) and characters so real, I felt I'd know them if I came across them on the street.I love this book. I love the author's writing. I can't wait for her follow-up book.

Isenberg Crave is a beautifully written account of one young woman's struggle with hunger. That hunger takes many forms and she clearly describes them all in flowing prose that brings the writer and her world to life. An incredibly strong and even braver woman shares her story of resiliency with the world. We often read of famous people who have overcome many of life's barriers but it is refreshing to read about "everywoman"'s rise above all that could have held her back. An A+read for everyone.

John Griffith "Jack" London (born John Griffith Chaney,[1] January 12, 1876 – November 22, 1916) was an American author, journalist, and social activist. A pioneer in the then-burgeoning world of commercial magazine fiction, he was one of the first fiction writers to obtain worldwide celebrity and a large fortune from his fiction alone. Jack London gained his first and most lasting fame as the author of tales of the Klondike gold rush. This, his first collection of stories, draws on his experience in the Yukon. The stories tell of gambles won and lost, of endurance and sacrifice, and often turn on the qualities of exceptional women and on the relations between the white adventurers and the native tribes.

By Bill Johnson [[VIDEOID:8b89f6f1ea06fd97bde9a8e43b583c37]] This culinary masterpiece has filled a void in my cookbook collection. I always struggle to work out camping menus from memory so this works as the perfect guide to delicious campfire cooking. Since I'm not great at creating menus, I especially like the prescribed menus which come with a really neat shopping list - so convenient!Goodbye ready-made camping meals and hello to happy campers.

I selfishly want a hundred more recipes of this caliber. I have tried a couple of them and they are fantastic. On a serious note I do wish this book was a little longer. Maybe closer to 75 or a hundred recipes. Especial considering I was already familiar with a dozen or so of these. The recipes range from basics, to hacks on existing recipes to stuff out of left field you'll be chomping at the bit to try. While not exclusively for car campers, the recipes imo are tailored more to the cabin/car camping set based on weight/ingredients/perishability. I do not fault it for this, as cooking is a huge arguably bigger part of camping. I was amazed the first time I saw how deluxe some people car camp. And I have started doing a lot more of it. There are tips in there to save weight for sure and practicalities of carrying and storing food are covered. I just think is type of "gourmet" (its all relative) cooking is better for people who can load up their car.All that being said the recipes are fantastic and the pictures are beautiful. The hacks are great too if you don't know them. This would make a great present for the foodie going camping for the first time, or the guy (or gal) trying to convince his partner that camping doesnt have to equal roughing it with nothing but mountain house for 7 days straight. I wish it was a bit bigger, but its small size does make it more packable. On a recent multi day hike with only dry freeze dried food I actually packed it as one of my two books just to read it all. It was more enjoyable than you'd think. (Especially as freeze dried food improves.)

By Brent Reece What a great book to head into camping season with! Not only was it full of great real camping recipes but had great tips and tricks for happy camping crammed into it too!Awesome recipes.........made for real campers who actually walk around in the open air and hike real mountains or trek on mountain bikes. Places where there are no refrigerators, stores and where roughing it really means roughing it!My only wish was that it was a lot longer....at least 75 solid recipes. Not the 50 solids she gives us.Love it so much I just added a blog post about it over at Northwoods Wanderings.......Good camping and good cooking.....I am a non-paid reviewer, and received this product for free or at a great discount for doing a fair and honest review. I only review items my readers would like to know more about.

Solo circumnavigation of the globe. Fewer than 300 sailors in history have accomplished it, less than the number of people who have climbed Mt. Everest, or even those who have gone to space. In 1990, Istvan Kopar set out to earn his place among this elite fraternity—and to do so with only one stop. If he were successful, he would realize a lifelong dream, and bring pride to his home country of Hungary in the process. Yet the risk of failure carried with it the possibility of dying alone in the middle of the vast sea. Over twenty years ago, Kopar first published the inspiring chronicle of his journey in his native Hungarian. All of his hopes, dreams, and fears coalesced into one word: Kihivas—The Challenge. Now, Kihivas: Alone at the Ends of the Earth brings this thrilling story to an English-speaking readership for the first time. Kopar recounts every element of his adventure, from custom-building his own 31-foot yacht, Salammbo, to battling the legendary waves of the Roaring Forties. His narrative is interspersed with proud descriptions of Hungary’s impressive maritime heritage, even as a landlocked country, and heartfelt portrayals of the memories that kept him going as he faced thousands of miles of lonely ocean. Experience a glimpse into the struggles, thrills, and insights known only to those who dare to pursue the greatest of challenges—alone at the ends of the earth.

Kihivas: Alone at the Ends of the Earth, by Istvan Kopar

Review "Istvan Kopar's story of his 1990 solo circumnavigation is a mesmerizing tale. The overall plot line may be similar to other sailing adventures, but what makes this a remarkable read is the voice. This Hungarian-born sailor has a fresh perspective which results in fascinating, tangible details coming across the page. Part ship's log, part personal reflection and part adventure story, Kihivas keeps readers' interest. It should resonate with any sailor, and prove to be a page-turner for most literary types... Re-reading passages for the sheer beauty of the words and the momentary transport to the deck of Salammbo should be expected." -Sailing Magazine

About the Author Istvan Kopar was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1953. Despite growing up in a landlocked country behind the Iron Curtain, Kopar was determined from a young age to be a sailor and a circumnavigator. At age seventeen, prior to attending college, he joined the merchant marine to learn about the sea. He worked for MAHART (Hungarian Shipping Company), from 1971 to 1984. Kopar traveled the world over the course of his career, and has stated that he "lost count after visiting over 100 different countries." Kopar has worked as a naval officer, sailing racer, and instructor. He started his own marina/charter operation and sailing school in Europe in the 1980s. He served as one of the operational managers of the biggest vessel recovery company in the U.S. from 2000 to 2010. He has taught at Sea School, Fort Lauderdale, and is an instructor trainer for U.S. Sailing. He is also a USCG-licensed commercial captain. Kopar's proudest accomplishment to date was his solo one-stop circumnavigation of the globe, 1990-1991. He built his own boat for the voyage, Salammbo. Due to his shoestring budget, Kopar sailed without GPS, autopilot, radar, a water-maker, or any heating device. He was forced to rely on the use of a sextant and manual plotting for determining his course, and upon Morse code for weather forecasts. His first book, Kihivas ("The Challenge"), details his adventures on this voyage. After Kopar returned safely home, Salammbo was exhibited at the 1992 World Expo in Seville, Spain, alongside a replica of the Santa Maria, and the U.S. Space Shuttle Discovery. Kopar holds a Bachelor of Science in Maritime Studies from the Technical University of Budapest, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Economics/Foreign Trade from the College for Foreign Trade at Budapest. He is fluent both in English and his native Hungarian. Kopar moved to the United States in 1994, and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2000. He has two adult children, and currently lives with his wife in Boca Raton, Florida. Captain Kopar was recently accepted as an entrant in the Golden Globe Race 2018, a nonstop solo race around the world.

Although I'm no expert on sailing, I enjoyed the book. I wanted to keep reading it and I finished it very quickly. The authors do a great job of giving me a sense of what it was like even though I have no experience that's anything close to what Istvan Kopar did. If you are an experienced sailor, you'll probably enjoy the book even more than I did.

By Albrecht Seer The adventure of a lifetime - a solo circumnavigation - that consequently changed a man's life but not his dreams of sailing the seven oceans alone! Coming from landlocked Hungary when it still was a Communist country behind the infamous Iron Curtain Istavan Kopar found his own course to the ultimate freedom by sailing around the world singlehanded following the most challenging route through the Roaring Forties and Screaming Fifties of the Southern Oceans. His account of the epic voyage is a thrilling document which gives the reader a chance to really comprehend and appreciate the enormous achievement of successfully finishing a seemingly impossible project that required an incredible amount of physical and mental strenght to overcome all the difficulties and obstacles - from the very first beginning when the 31 ft sailboat had to be transported from Hungary to the starting point at Pula in what is now Croatia, then still Yugoslavia. The log book entries along with the narrative passages of the book picture vividly the various highs and lows, storms and a knockdown not only weatherwise but also in terms of the psychological and physical status of the lone sailor as he is battling the unforgiving forces of the Southern Ocean. The interested reader finds a load of valuable information on sailing details as well as on the boat's equipment and provisions for such an adventure. With the general technical progress during the last 25 years in mind and also considering the limited resources which Istvan Kopar had to start out all by himself one cannot fail to admire the successfully finished circumnavigation. The author is planning to participate in a singlehanded race around the globe in 2018. Hopefully there will be another book coming after this circumnavigation - which should be the third one for Captain Kopar - once again!

Kopar not only constructed his own boat but kept it in constant repair. He has such great strength of character. Enjoyed his love of his family, his friends and his country; also his choice of books and music to feel him going. He was incredibly resourceful. It made me appreciate the explorers of old in a new way. Reading about his trip was exciting and suspenseful. It often reminded me of "The Perfect Storm" and the book about the rowing team at the 1936 Olympics. I love the beach but you get an entirely different perspective when you are offshore. The ocean is so vast and this book gives you such an appreciation for it. Kopar is incredibly brave and determined! The book was very well written and the pictures added to the enjoyment of the story.

This is the rich memoir of an adventurous life of high spirits and deep curiosity, of exploring many countries, languages and cultures; of passionate social and environmental commitments and of joyous appreciation for the truly wondrous worlds of spirituality, love and sexuality. He has been fascinated by Life's mysteries from an early age. There’s much to cover: { } Years at Stanford, learning to flourish in the normal world. { } Exciting and challenging years of graduate work in Russian and Czech at Harvard, and universities in Prague and in divided Berlin, with communist East Germany close in all around. Developing a sense of Europe and Europeans. { } Restoring a 400-year-old ruined stone house on the Magical Greek Isle of Hydra. { } Stories of the long struggle to end the war in Vietnam. { } Work at an early think tank, where he encountered an unending parade of distinguished thinkers and doers. Ecologist Paul Ehrlich, religious historian Eliade, a hundred more. { } He lived in the full flow of the all-engulfing social, cultural and political ferment of the S. Cal 60’ies. He here shares his underground work with the radical New Adult Community, ardent social pioneers. { } Creating the Calendar of Contemporary Saints, books about admirable “saints for today.”{ } Spiritual retreat time in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery near Kathmandu, encouraged by his best friend. Then, spiritually somewhat deeper but physically 56 pounds lighter, hepatitis followed, with great weakness and a year’s slow recovery. { } Falling in love with the great city of San Francisco, and West Sonoma County. He ran “Magical Premises,” a spiritually- and activist-oriented boarding house, entering into the freewheeling and passionate San Francisco Bay Area life. { } Environmental activism with David Brower at Friends of the Earth, and co-founding Earth Island Institute which now, 35 years later, has 64 projects. Michael witnessed the movement’s emerging vigor, urgency, power and proliferation of purposes. We organized four major biennial “Fate of the Earth Conferences.” Michael was invited to the founding congress of the German Greens party. He co-led tours venturing into the (then our ‘enemy’) Soviet Union, as part of the new opening up, where Mikhail Gorbachev soon surfaced. He co-led in publishing an eco-newspaper at the U. N.’s 2nd Session on Nuclear Disarmament. { } As the AIDS epidemic arose, Michael took care of sickened friends and others in the San Francisco epicenter, and raised money to help exhausted caregivers. Midst the fear and suffering there was a great deal of love, and both practical and spiritual learnings. (You learn some about his loves with women, but guess that his far more frequent yearnings have been for men.) { } His appreciative reviews here of the original productions of HAIR (in New York), the Cirque du Soleil, Ballets Trocadero, of the original S. Cal Renaissance Faire and Santa Barbara Summer Solstice parades are happy demonstrations of their mostly unnoted spiritual dimensions. { } He became interested in spiritual exploration, through meditation, time in nature, fasting, Sufi dancing and taking magical substances. Parties came to mean more, as celebrations, expressions of deep sharing and joy. He came to understand the essence of celebration, and chose celebration as his basic stance in life. { } Living in spectacular Nature in Big Sur, West Sonoma and Greece, . He fell in love with the wonderful gardening-and-social-change community of OAEC in Occidental there, volunteering for 10 years in their spectacular organic gardens, where they grow some 4,000 varieties of vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers. He hopes that he conveys some of their inspiring mood. { } Finally, this book is an enthusiastic praise of Life’s possibilities, and a heartfelt encouragement to live Life as joyously and zestily as we dare.

Parker There are hints of Proust and Blavatsky here, the aromas of Katmandu and ashrams, of Carnatic music and Tantric bachanals, of a Sixties now extant in memory alone (or almost), the possibility of discoveries that are both Delphic and OM-centric---but you need to be alert to Hathaway's fundamental genius in confecting them together and making of it all a singular life. This volume covers much of that time. It is a wonderful evocation of that period, and the several decades of his life leading up to it...full of interesting insights and larger than life personalities. Anyone interested in Central and Eastern Europe of that time, the evolving anti-Vietnam moverment, and the rapidly growing counter culture political scene will find the book fascinating.

Alcorn From her family's frightening journey escaping ahead of the Russians at the end of World War II, to her Christmas visit to her Aunt Eki in war-torn Berlin, Bettina Cirsovias Jenkins relives her childhood as a young girl forced to leave her father and her dog at home in northern Germany and travel by horse cart to Bavaria with her mother and her sisters. Her life goes from bad to worse with the death of her mother, and yet she bravely and optimistically stays in school and studies English for the time she will emigrate to America, the Beautiful and the Safe.Bettina's Trek (coauthored by her husband Ray Jenkins) is a marvelous reconstruction of a nearly forgotten time and experience for a whole population of displaced German families.Sally Alcorn

Strong in the Broken Places By Amazon Customer By Judith Hillman Paterson author of “Sweet Mystery: A Book ofRemembering,” FS&G, 1996Format: PaperbackI wouldn’t have missed this riveting, moving, and informative book for the world. Set in the Germany of WWII and its aftermath, two treks unfold in the words of the irrepressible child-narrator, Bettina Cirsovius Jenkins. The 8-year-old Bettina makes the first trek with her mother, her two older sisters, and a cluster of close friends, mostly women and children traveling in horse-drawn covered wagons. Setting out from the town of Neubrandenburg in northern Germany fleeing the invading Russians amid the German collapse, the trekkers journeyed from pillow to post for three months facing starvation and every imaginable danger until they could stop among relatives and friends in Bavaria. The other trek traces the longer journey Bettina and her sisters must travel to survive, stick together, and go on in a shattered world after the heartbreaking death of their parents. In the end the book is both an adventure story and a tribute to family solidarity and the importance of friendship in times of trouble.

By Jessica Anya Blau, author, THE WONDER BREAD SUMMER A beautiful book about a brave German girl dealing with one loss after another. It's a moving story and a sad story, but it's full of heart and optimism. The small details paint a vivid portrait of what life was like as a young girl during the war.

Excerpt from Memories of Two Wars: Cuban and Philippine ExperiencesIt seems to be expected nowadays that every one who writes a book, unless it is a society novel, will use up a page or more of valuable space in explaining why he did it. In this particular case the publishers are largely to blame, as they had not a little to do with hatching the conspiracy. At least, they are where the public can get at them, while the writer, being on the other side of the world, assisting in a small way in bearing the white man's burden, is safe; and before his return to within the jurisdiction of the courts of the home-land the statute of limitations will have thrown over him its protecting mantle. If any person should start to read this book with the idea that he may find therein discussions of military strategy or tactics, or an elucidation of personal views on our recent incursion into the realm of world-politics, this would be an excellent moment for him to put on his hat and return the volume to the neighbor from whom he borrowed it. For this is nothing more than a contribution, such as it may be, to the literature of adventure.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Must Read By Kindle Customer The first part is an excellent account of the Cuban war of independence from the point of view of an American volunteer in the Cuban Army during a time when American intervention was limited to individual participation. It is also an example of a warrior learning his craft from the "trench up." The second part moves from Cuba, before the Spanish American War, to the Phillipines, post victory over Spain. We have the islands and the natives would rather we leave, the setting for a conflict between US Forces and the Filipino natives. We follow Funston's role in the war as commanding officer of a Kansas milita regiment to his ultimate capture of the Filipine leader by means of a ruse. After reading this book you can see why his susequent career in the US Army was so successful.

By Ari Bridge These books first educate you on the basic need to know information about freshwater fishing, along with some of the best tips for freshwater fishermen. At the end you’ll find some safety information that every fisherman should know. Freshwater fishing is when a fisherman fishes in a body of water that has less than 0.05% salinity. You can find freshwater in ponds, lakes, streams, rivers and they can be both man-made and naturally occurring. Freshwater fishing is different than saltwater fishing because the species of fish are entirely different. However, there are some fish that can transition from salt water to freshwater. Salmon is a perfect example of a game fish that can do this. They are born in freshwater, then spend a few years at sea and return to spawn in the same freshwater body of water they were born in. Freshwater fishing can be done on every continent across the globe. This box set has so much great fishing information in it! These are exactly the type of fishing books I have been looking for and I am so happy I have read them because I have learned so much valuable knowledge. I definitely recommend this box set to any fishing lover!

Herrington This has to be about the most worthless book on fishing I have ever read. It is written on a 3rd grade level... for someone that knows absolutely nothing at all about fishing... and... it doesn't even give any real information or go into detail about products to use or brand names that are good or not good. It is nothing more than three poorly written, short magazine articles... written in large type to take up space. In my opinion, the author is an idiot and the phrase: "Those that can't do... can teach" comes to mind but this author can't even do that well. I could literally write a book about how terrible and totally worthless this book is! Even if you paid 1 cent for this book and got free shipping.... you would still feel ripped off when you read the contents of this book. The only thing this book would be good for would be to line the bottom of my bird cage!

I just read this book because I am planning to do business of fish. It was very interesting to know about fishes and their characteristics. I came to know that there are different tricks to catch different types of fishes. The book is very well written. It provides detail of fishing including images of materials used in catching them. It taught me tricks and positions to catch fish according to the weather.I am definitely going for fishing and will use these tricks and amaze my friends. I will start by fishing catfish as the book said they are easy to catch.Recommended to all those people who love fishing.

The Godhead Epoch: Book One

No one can outrun destiny or the gods.

In Epiro, a kingdom in Greece, Perseus is prophesied to be a great demigod hero and king, with a legacy that will shape the world of Gaia. When he was born, his grandfather exiled him, and his mother brought them to Seriphos, where she created an academy for demigod youth. Perseus trains there and waits for the day when he will be able to take the throne of Argos.

Despite potential future glory, Perseus's fellow students think he is weak. By the time he reaches manhood, he has given up the hope of having any real friends, until Antolios, a son of Apollo, takes an unexpected interest in him. Perseus and Antolios fall in love, but Antolios knows it cannot last and leaves Seriphos.

Perseus, grief-stricken and lonely, rebels against the Fates, thinking he can avoid the prophecy and live his own life. But when the gods find him, he is thrust into an epic adventure. With his divine powers, he fights gorgons and sea serpents, and battles against his darker nature. Perseus strives to be his own man... but the gods have other plans.

Great Worldbuilding, Strong Characters, Mythological Fantasy With an LGBT Bent By JScottC I just finished reading an Advance Reading Copy of King of the Storm, the first novel from author BA Brock, which came out on Tuesday.Let me say first that I have known BA for about two years now – he is the reviewer for the Queer Sci Fi site, and I was privileged to read a bit of the novel in beta, when it was posted to our critique group. But reading pieces and reading the whole thing are two entirely different experiences. I now know how everything fits together! The book takes place in Greece, but just to avoid confusion, this is NOT the Greece of our world. It’s another country (or world) based on Greek Mythology, but not bound by it.And there’s a romance here, of sorts, but this is not a Romance with a capital “R”, per se. Instead, it’s an epic novel about one man’s fight with his own destiny. The story follows Perseus in the first person, giving the story an immediacy that I really enjoyed as he grows from youth to man. At first he runs from his destiny, leaving behind everything he knows… but this is NOT going to be one of those reviews that gives away the whole story. Suffice it to say it’s rather amazing to watch Brock deftly handle the jumps forward in time. And I thought that her choice to put the other character point of views in third person added appropriate distance to those roles, which serve as story bridges. One of my favorite things about KOTS is how Perseus’s sexuality and sexual orientation is just a given. Yes, there’s a sexual conflict, but it doesn’t revolve around whether or not he should be gay, or should have sex with men. It’s refreshing to see a gay hero so at ease with that aspect of his personality. There’s sex in the story, but it’s not overdone, it’s presented matter of factly, and advances the plot. And though this is not the Greece of Earth, lovers of Greek mythology will find lots here to like.Brock builds a beautiful, convincing world here, and populates it with real people who also happen to be heroes (and in some cases, monsters).I’ve heard rumor that he may be working on a sequel. I hope it’s true.Five Stars.

By kara So I am not really sure what to say about this story...While this starts of as a m/m it quickly turns to m/f about halfway through with some m/m mixed in. So I wanted to give a little warning for those who mainly read m/m like me. I did kind of get disappointed after that because I rarely read m/f books anymore so it did kind of bring this book down for me mainly because I went into this book and after reading the first part thinking one thing then everything changed up and honestly I was really not a fan of her character. Now the first part of this book had me gripped on the edge of my seat and I could not put it down. But unfortunately I had a hard time finishing the last half of this book.I get what this author did with this story and I loved parts of it but for me personally there are things I am not a fan of in a book and without saying what he does, it happens a lot in this book.So while I loved the premise of this story and parts of this book..I am sad to say this book was just not for me...I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.

Book Review by Teresa By PrismBookAlliance 4 out of 5 StarsFor original review, please visit the Prism Book Alliance® blog online. As King of the Storm comes from Dreamspinners’ DSP imprint, you may guess that it is not a romance per se. There is a love story in there, in fact on some levels, there are many. That in itself is why it doesn’t fit the traditional definition. King of the Storm is an epic journey of a man spanning many years and adventures.I had to suspend some of my personal foibles to truly appreciate this story. As this is set in a fictional world patterned off of Ancient Greece and follows, loosely, some of Greek Mythology’s legends, you have to remember the morals of the times. The gods were not faithful; sex was seen in a totally different light. Perseus is bi-sexual and polyamorous. While I have nothing against either of these, there was cheating in that his love partners did not all know about the others. I, personally, do not like cheating, but in this case, I couldn’t see the characters realistically doing otherwise and still have the same story. There are two main pairings, one MM and explicit, one MF and all sex off page. In fact all the copious amount of sex in the book is MM pairings. The sex gets a little wild at times!I loved the adventure. The action and the setting were great and reading it felt like watching a movie at times. I was immersed in the story.I loved seeing Perseus grow as a person and as a man. I felt like I understood his motivations and his innate goodness. I didn’t like Antolios as much and couldn’t quite see the connection there but I like how things worked out in the end.All in all, a great fantasy epic!

Alice LaPlante's acclaimed psychological thrillers are distinguished by their stunning synthesis of family drama and engrossing suspense. Her new novel is an affecting foray deeper into the creases of family life―and the light-and-dark battle of faith―as LaPlante delves into the barbed psyche of a teenager whose misguided convictions bear irrevocable consequences.

Never one to conform, Anna always had trouble fitting in. Earnest and willful, as a young girl she quickly learned how to hide her quirks from her parents and friends. But when, at sixteen, a sudden melancholia takes hold of her life, she loses her sense of self and purpose. Then the Goldschmidts move in next door. They're active members of a religious cult, and Anna is awestruck by both their son, Lars, and their fervent violent prophecies for the Tribulation at the End of Days. Within months, Anna's life―her family, her home, her very identity―will undergo profound changes. But when her newfound beliefs threaten to push her over the edge, she must find her way back to center with the help of unlikely friends. An intimate story of destruction and renewal, New York Times bestselling author LaPlante delivers a haunting exploration of family legacies, devotion, and tangled relationships.

Her previous two titles, Turn of Mind and A Circle of Wives were what piqued my interest in this latest work, COMING OF AGE AT THE END OF DAYS. Though I would like to say that the latter title equaled in brilliance the previous two titles, I simply cannot do that. Though this book, COMING OF AGE, has glimpses of the amazing author, Ms. LaPlante, overall it seems to me that the author stepped so far outside of her comfort zone that this reader felt almost UNcomfortable.Just sixteen years old, Anna is suffering from depression. Though Anna prefers to use the term ‘melancholia’ to describe her condition. Without a strong Christian upbringing, Anna’s mother is completely against religion yet she reads the Bible with Anna each night, Anna’s ideals become muddled when she meets a new neighbor named Lars who along with his parents are deeply embedded in a religious ‘cult’ whose purpose is to bring about the end of days. Having strange dreams about a red heifer that Anna and a religious sect deem prophetic, Anna becomes obsessed with the Book of Revelations and as such, the coming of the end of days.Anna’s parents, her mother a piano teacher and her father an earthquake obsessed lawyer, are probably two of the most clueless parents ever written. Their near hands-off approach to their daughter’s upbringing finds them completely unable to both relate to their daughter and to reach their daughter. Though they live in the same house, they may as well be from two different planets.Anna’s small circle of friends includes Lars; Jim Fulson, a mid-twenties neighbor who is in the middle of his own breakdown; and Clara, Anna’s science teacher. After a completely and devastating live-changing event, Anna will come to rely on each of her friends in a new way.COMING OF AGE AT THE END OF DAYS left me a bit confused and curious. At the end of the book I still feel no real resolution to Anna’s life. And maybe that’s the point, maybe there never really is a resolution and all we really have are the questions more than the answers.✰✰✰

COMING OF AGE AT THE END OF DAYS is the kind of book that will inspire fierce debate By Bookreporter You probably have a pretty good idea about the topic of Alice LaPlante's new novel just by looking at its rather lengthy title. And in many ways you'd be right; it’s about a teenager growing up in a time of uncertainty and potential apocalypse. But COMING OF AGE AT THE END OF DAYS is, of course, far more complicated than its title would suggest on the surface, and it marks a new direction for its author, whose previous two books were more easily recognizable as literary thrillers --- unique ones to be sure, but thrillers nonetheless.LaPlante’s latest is more of a character study of the teenager Anna, 16 when we first meet her. Anna lives in Sunnyvale, California, a Silicon Valley suburban community where nothing particularly notable ever happens. It's not even that close to potential fault lines, Anna's earthquake-obsessed father notes with more than a hint of regret, although he has optimistically packed their cellar with canned goods and bottled water regardless.Anna's parents are loving and supportive, even if they have a complicated history of their own and even if they are sometimes too busy pursuing their own passions to pay attention to Anna. When, at age 16, Anna succumbs to a deep depression accompanied by periodic hallucinations, they try to do the right thing --- taking her to therapy, encouraging her to talk with them --- but they seem largely clueless and ineffective at reaching out to her, leaving her to feel increasingly alone. That is, until Lars Goldschmidt and his parents move onto their insular suburban street. Lars, not shy about proselytizing, approaches Anna right away and encourages her to join his family at worship services. Anna, who had previously enjoyed reading the Bible aloud with her secular humanist mother, accepts the invitation --- and is sucked into a doomsday sect bent on hastening the end times.Almost immediately, Anna becomes a passionate convert, believing her own dreams and visions to have real relevance for the church's projects. Others seem to believe that she might be Chosen as well, and she is encouraged to devote her life to the mission --- as soon as she is old enough to be emancipated from her parents.Complicating Anna's single-minded pursuit of her new religious fervor (about which her parents seem, at least at first, oddly unconcerned) are her feelings for her across-the-street neighbor Jim, a few years older than her, and by her reluctant admiration for her beautiful and enigmatic chemistry teacher (who also happens to be involved in a relationship with Jim). When a tragedy upends Anna's small world, she begins to think about the end times in a different light. But will she continue to pursue Lars' vision, or will she find her own path?Certainly vulnerable young people land in cults all the time, so Anna's story shouldn't feel as far-fetched as it sometimes does, but her immediate switch from depression and agnosticism to single-minded religious fanaticism seems more than a bit of a leap. Her tendency to spout Scripture at the drop of a hat also strains credulity, as does the novel's second half, which finds a slightly older Anna on the run from the law.Where LaPlante's novel makes up for these shortcomings is in its complex consideration of religious faith as a sort of obsession, one that is mirrored in Anna's parents' passions for music and seismology. Put in these terms, Anna's rapid conversion might not seem so unlikely, and LaPlante raises questions about mental fragility, vulnerability, and a variety of paths toward wholeness, many of which will find resonance among readers. The Epilogue seems tacked-on and largely unnecessary, raising more questions than it answers. But despite its at times melodramatic bent, COMING OF AGE AT THE END OF DAYS is the kind of book that will inspire fierce debate, not only about its merits but also about its content.Reviewed by Norah Piehl

Eerie and Surreal By CG I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.Alice LaPlante’s Coming of Age at the End of Days is the story of a 16-year-old girl named Anna who lived in Sunnyvale, California, with her piano teacher mother and her earthquake-obsessed father. Anna falls into a deep depression that begins to abate after her mother, who is quite anti-Christianity, reads the Bible to her in hopes of lifting her spirits. Anna is most intrigued by the Book of Revelations, which she sees as mirroring her own feelings of impending doom. Not long after that she is introduced to the apocalyptic religious organization of her neighbors, the Goldschmidts. This group seeks to bring about the end of days, and Anna is enthralled almost immediately. However, after experiencing a life-altering tragedy, Anna must confront her quest to help bring about the rapture.Coming of Age at the End of Days depicts depression and the seeking of death and destruction in a very realistic way. During the beginning Anna reminded me of Justine from Melancholia, as she was looking forward to the end of it all. She became more active than Justine once she believed that through her actions she could help bring about the rapture. The way Anna comes to her obsession with death is somewhat inconsistent with the characterization of her mother. I felt that the author did not satisfactorily explain why her mother would read Anna the Bible when she was strongly opposed to Christianity.Nevertheless, Coming of Age at the End of Days was a very satisfying read. Not only was I not able to put it down, but Ms. LaPlante’s writing did what I love for writing to do—it transported me into Anna’s mind, complete with the feelings of unease, devastation, and utter loneliness. Mrs. LaPlante also does a masterful job of creating three-dimensional characters in the world around Anna, each of whom plays a major part in her growth during the course of the book.I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and would recommend it to people looking for an eerie and surreal read that is morally and psychologically complex.
